Gideon yawned as he sat down at one of the tables, absently sprinkling some pepper onto his omelet. He hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the night before, and it was all because of one, very special person. He looked tired but the coffee he was drinking was helping with that, at least it felt like it.
He had so much to do that day, he was feeling partly overwhelmed and was surprised it hadn't kicked off a headache just yet. Granted it was early yet and plenty of time left in the day. He was nervous because tonight would be the first time he ever sang during choir, and he wasn't sure what song he wanted to sing.
He couldn't do Thinking Out Loud, otherwise, Jaina might end up in his arms, embarrassing them both. Instead, he was looking at other Ed Sheeran songs and had a couple that he was considering. They were a little more subtle than his greatest hits, but he thought they would get the message across just fine.

Jaina made her way into the dining hall, trying to control her slight irritation. She had slept in - for the first time in years. By the time she had woken, there had been no time to get outside this morning. So she had taken a military shower and headed down for breakfast on a weekday for the first time in...years. It was a strange event for her but maybe one that she should start getting used to.
Especially if Gideon was going to walk through the halls without a shirt on. Even the memory made her blush. It had a taken a very long time to get to sleep last night, going over and over their conversation. And of course, remember the contours of his body. Not like she hadn't seen it before but those times, it had always been rushed. They had been in a hurry to get back for curfew or her detention or whatever else kept them running. Only 29 days to go and she was a free woman - providing nothing else went horribly wrong.
At least she didn't have to worry about a repeat of what had landed her in hot water in the first place. Eventually, Roxy was going to get her revenge. That was obvious. There was nothing Jaina could do to prevent it in the long run and she wasn't going to live her life in fear of it. As long as Roxy struck first, she was within her rights to defend herself from further harm but it was the wait, the contemplation.
Her eyes immediately picked Gideon out in the dining hall, drawn like metal filing to a magnet. For a moment, she was drawn back to last night. Her flush in her cheeks deepened. Her irritation faded away as she made her way over to him. She slid into the seat next to him, as the other side of the table was full.
"Morning," she murmured, grabbing for the coffee pot to pour herself a cup, relieved that there would be two good things about getting breakfast. "You don't mind, do you? Sitting here, I mean?"

"Why would I mind?" he asked, giving her a tired smile. "How did you sleep?" he asked before cutting off a bite of his omelet. It had bacon, sausage and a shit ton of cheese. The perfect omelet.
He scooted a little closer to her, reaching for the coffee to refill his cup. It was his third and it was black, no sugar or cream this time. He didn't have time for that nonsense, he needed to wake up now.

"Didn't know if you were saving it for Shae or someone," she replied carefully, grabbing some honey and adding that and a bit of milk to the mixture, needing the milk to cool it down enough she could drink it quickly and the honey for her throat. Even though she didn't think she wasn't singing tonight, it was important to be prepared.
She lowered her head, yawning, before taking a drink in order to fight off another one. "Perfectly." That sounded convincing, right? No stress on any syllable? Not a hint of the relief and yet frustration that had had her tossing and turning for a few long hours. She should have just gone back to the bath.
"You?"

"After a long shower and a soak, I was ready for bed," he said carefully choosing his words. "I got into bed and as soon as my head hit my pillow I was out like a light."
He took a drink of his coffee he returned to his omelet, cutting it up to make it into sizeable bites so that he could eat it quickly if needed, and while it was still hot. He took a bite and sighed in contentment as the flavors rolled over his tongue inside his mouth. It was so satisfyingly good.

There was an image to wake her up if the coffee hadn't. Sometimes, Jaina could really understand what had her sister jumping in and out of bed with a guy like the world was about to end. Though she doubted every single one of her sister's paramours could be like Gideon...
Who she really shouldn't be fantasizing about in the bath, the slickness of...NO! No no no! She scolded herself, suddenly becoming even more fascinated with her coffee. What the hell was it? He said that she had done something to him but if that were true, he was just as guilty of whatever it was. Stupid boys...even stupider hormones. Maybe if they hadn't done anything yet, it would be a lot easier to shut things down. Then she would only imagine things - not see in perfect detail.
Focus on something else - ANYTHING else. Food around her. There was lots of food around her. It wasn't exactly appetizing for her but the others seemed to be enjoying it. Gideon seemed particularly content with his own breakfast. "Good, huh?" She asked, just wanting to make conversation at this point or else she was just going to sit there, tapping her fingers on the cup in rhythm, to make up for the energy she could be making good use of - had she not slept in this morning.

"It's perfection on a plate," he said taking another bite of the omelet. "Bacon, sausage and lots of cheese," he said, wiggling his brows at her. He took another bite before offering her one?
"What are you doing Thursday night?" he asked suddenly, taking another bite of the omelet.

"No thank you," Jaina said when he offered, instead pouring herself another cup of coffee and doctoring it properly.
"Not much. I need to get some piano practice in after detention but providing I don't sleep in that morning, I should be free most of the evening. Got something in mind?" They had said that they were going to do something tonight...just not exactly what. Why would he be asking about tomorrow night?
Actually, it was strange that last night, he had mentioned doing something tonight since they both had choir. But there would be a little time between the end of music and curfew so was he thinking of doing something else tomorrow? Or was he bailing on tonight? Not that she minded - give her a longer run time after this morning.
She was thinking too much. Way, way too much. She hadn't been like this since he had first asked her out. Don't be stupid. He's a guy. They don't do complicated normally. She had seen enough of that over the years to know better.

"Well I have to bail after Choir," he said. "Sorry, but I was hoping that Thursday we could get together and you could help me practice for the choir."
"I'm pretty sure I can get Shae to babysit for us, so our babies will be in good hands," he said. "Plus I can poke some fun at him for playing with dolls," he said with a grin before reaching over and taking a sip of his coffee.

"That would actually work a lot better," Jaina agreed. It would give her time to run and work out, the latter she hadn't done in a little longer than she liked. "Thursday would be fine." When he mentioned the babysitter, it was a relief knowing that it was one less day she would have to pay Darcy. She might actually have some allowance left this month for Halloween costumes. Now she just had to convince Gideon...a wicked smile crossed her lips before she realized what he had said about his friend. Just wait until Shae realized that he was actually going to have to babysit at least one doll. Yesterday, while lying in bed, she had gotten totally creeped out by the beanbag and transfigured it into a more realistic-looking doll.
It hit something in the back of her mind though. Something was wrong suddenly and she just couldn't figure out what it was.
"Sounds good. By the way, I hadn't gotten a chance to tell you yet but sometime, not sure how soon, I am taking over for accompanying for the choir so Mrs. Nightingale can actually start directing."

"Oh? Are you giving up singing?" he asked, sad that they'd never get to sing together if that was the case. He didn't know the rules when it came to pairing voices for duets and that they were highly unlikely to get one in the first place.
"I suppose trying something new is a good thing, you play very well," he said, at least he thought so in his mind. He took another bite of omelet, chewing it as he thought.
"I'm glad Thursday is good for you," he said. "I've been wanting to spend some time working on my voice, and spending it with you doesn't hurt either."

"I don't know yet. I can sing and play at the same time but it takes a lot of practice. I need to know the song really well - especially if I am singing harmony instead of melody," she admitted. "I guess, I love singing but I think I need a bit of a change for awhile." Plus, if you aren't playing drums, there will be a piano between us. While she would never embarrass him by kissing him mid-performance, no one would see her red cheeks if her mind strayed a little. It would definitely require a lot of practice so she could play it perfectly despite a small distraction.
"Yeah, that sounds like fun," Jaina said, her tone a little more careful. The last time they intended to do this, it had ended quite poorly. Hopefully tomorrow night was not going to be a repeat disaster.

"I've been thinking about trying the drums again," he said between bites. "I figure if I take the potion beforehand, then it will at least dull any headache that should pop up."
"I've decided I can't let it beat me down, no matter how much pain it brings," he said. "I'll have to learn to sing and play at the same time too."

Jaina was relieved when he said that he was going to try again. Bad enough that he had lost flying. He couldn't lose his music too. She couldn't imagine a world where you had talent and suddenly lost it so completely. She had been planning for a while, wondering how she could convince him to try again with the same method he had decided to use. That was one less thing...
"Good, I'm glad." She said, grasping her cup tightly. Jaina wanted to touch him, comfort him but it just wasn't a good idea...not with a whole long day ahead of them and the only part of him she could reach without interfering with his eating would be his thigh. Yeah, she didn't know how he would react but it didn't seem like the best time to find out.
"So I guess we learn together."
Speaking of potions, Jaina lowered her voice. "By the way, Professor McDanna was right to make me repeat the morning's lesson on Friday night. Successful so..." Leave it at that for him to fill in the rest of the blanks. "Just thought you would want to know." She shot him a sweet smile and finished her coffee.

"Yeah, I like the sound of that, learning together," he said with a smile that didn't quite meet his eyes but it was still genuine. "Oh really? That will definitely save some money in the long run. I should probably try again too since it was my fault our's failed. Potions just aren't my forte."
"If you don't mind making the stuff though, we could get a steady supply of it, for whenever we may need it," he said with a smile. He reached over and touched her knee, feeling a lot better about a lot of things that had been plaguing him for awhile.
