Arwen had been running late to breakfast for the simple fact that wanted to make sure to get the letter to her father finished off. She wanted to make sure that he was doing fine plus see if he had any idea on what to do for a great Halloween costume. Arwen knew that Eris was supposed to be looking but that did not mean anything. The fellow housemate could be jerking her strings along. The witch made her way into the dining hall having already made her way back from the common rooms picking up the books she was going to need for the day.
She had waved to the Pukwidge in the room little confused on why there were a new bed and bag. If something was happening the headmaster would make sure to tell them later if affected them, “Aloha (1) Jackie. See you later. Next time I am cooking will make sure to make you all some Malasadas. You will all love them and so nice.”
Awren then hurried to avoid everyone else in the halls as ran to make sure got something to eat. The witch walked to the room and over to a table close enough to the door. She put her hair up in a half ponytail. She had some of her more hands-on classes today. Those were the classes that she seemed to falter the most in grades wise. She had to make sure to work harder.
Aloha = Goodbye

Kagami headed for the girl the others had indicated. "Arwen Green?" she asked confidently, though her accent made the name sound more like 'Ah-roo-wen Goo-reen'. How had she missed this girl in the common room? Perhaps she hadn't been there. "Hello. I am Kagami, your new roommate. I am very sorry to interrupt your breakfast, but Gabriel said you could help me find my classes."
She made a motion toward Gabriel and his Wampus friends without pointing. Hopefully, this was the right girl and she wasn't making a fool of herself. Their robes shared the same designs on the cuffs, so, at the very least, this was another Pukwudgie.

Awren turned hearing her name and worked on putting the toast down on the plate. She did not know that there was a new girl in their class. This made more sense since she did see them adding another bed to the room. “Aloha (1) miss. I am sorry but can you work on trying to work on saying your name on how to pronounce it.“ The witch did not mind if her name was not sounding normally. “You did not interrupt my breakfast at all. Aʻole pilikia (2), I would not mind showing you around to all the different classes. Which ones are you taking?”
Arwen looked towards where the others were at and worked on waving towards the table. “Gabriel and Becca are really nice. If anyone gives you a hard time at the school let me know. I will help you take care of them. Were you able to eat.” She really preferred to have the food she made herself. “Let me finish this toast really fast. Then will show you all the different ala (3) in the school.
Aloha - Hi A’ole pilikia - No problem Ala - paths

"Kah-gah-mee," she said slowly, figuring she'd spoken too quickly. That was a habit she needed to break, especially around people that were going to have a hard time understanding her in the first place. "It means 'mirror'." Kagami swiped an open palm in front of her face, miming a mirror. She pulled her schedule out of her pocket and handed it over to Arwen. All of their classes were the same except Kagami had Magical Sports instead of Astronomy.
She stood there for a moment, trying to process Arwen's words. What language was that? Hawaiian? Kagami didn't know anything beyond 'aloha'. That Arwen chose to mix the two languages together in her sentences was interesting. She tried not to do that with Japanese and English, if she knew the English translation. "I don't understand. What is 'ala'?" she asked, not even bothering to try to say the other thing that she didn't understand. Was that how she sounded to Americans?

Arwen looked over the piece of paper that Kagami handed her. This would be easier then expected since they could just go to classes together. “Kagami that seems easy enough. It sounds like it spelt. I can for sure show you where all your classes are. Other then one we are in all the same classes.” Arwen was happy to have someone to study with.
She looked at her new roommate before gently hitting her forehead with palm. “I am so sorry. Should have worked harder on speaking in English. Ala means path or road. So what meant to say was can show you all the different paths there are.” Arwen finished her toast thinking on what other words used. “A’ole pilikia means no problem.”
Arwen moved to stand up and grab her book bag. Most of the other students normally did not ask her what said. They could normally understand the contact clues in other statements. “Kagami, if say anyrhing else don't understand let me no it most likely not going be the last time talk in Hawaiian. It easier to do then most English. The letters write to family are even in it.”

"Ooh," Kagami said, comprehension dawning on her face. "Okay. I will let you know. I understand what that is like. Tell me if you don't understand me, too."
Kagami didn't have any of her materials. In all the excitement, it had been left in her trunk with everything else. She'd need to go back out and get her satchel before going to class. Or summon it and hope it didn't hit anyone on its journey. "If I send letters to my father, they will be in English. He is American," she said, making conversation. "Japanese is easier to me, but people that do not speak it think it is hard."

“Deal,” Arwen smiled knowing that it would be easy for her to work on trying to understand a few of the worlds in Japanese. “It helps also we can make a little book of all the words use all the time. That way you would have it there.”
Arwen was listening to everything that Kagami was saying. It did not make sense of why if her father was American that she was in a Japanese school. She knew there had to be a story but when Kagami felt like telling her she would. “Most my letters are a mix of different languages. We have Pidgin, Hawaiian, and then English. So this is really fun to learn everything.” She stood up having finished eating. Arwen realized that Kagami did not have her bags. “Do we need to go back to the house to work on getting your supplies. Tonight I can show you where all the other classes are.”

"That's a good idea," Kagami looked impressed and happy simultaneously. "We will be spending most days together in class and in the house, so we should learn how to communicate."
Her eyebrows lifted. "Three languages? I did not know that about Hawaii. That's very interesting," she said. "Japanese and English are the only languages I know. We are required to learn English, but I would have learned it, regardless, to speak to my father. He is a quidditch player and met my mother in Japan during a tournament. I play quidditch, too, but it is not very popular here, is it? I think I will join the quodpot team, if there is room for me."
Kagami resisted rolling her eyes when she spoke of her dad, having never really been fond of her paternal parent. "Yes, I do need to get my bag, sankyuu," she rubbed the back of her neck. "I mean thank you. You do not have astronomy tonight?"
When the classes were explained to her, she was told that class took place at night. Not every night, of course. But she wasn't familiar with her own schedule, yet, let alone others.

Arwen listens to her talk about her family and smiled. It seemed as if they had a really great family. “If you don’t mind me asking what you brought here to Ilvermory. Most of the students that join here start at the beginning of the year. Plus they don’t normally transfer. If you do not feel like answering do not need to though.” She did not want her roommate to feel as if not comfortable. “We will be spending lots of time in class and the house. Learning to communicate will be a great thing.”
She laughed seeing the eyebrows lift. “Pidgin is not really hard to learn it English with a little twist. I am sure that we will find a place for you on the Quodpot team. Maybe it is worth wild to actually go to some of the games this year. Quodpot and Quidditch are not really the types of sports that into.” She smiled, “If your father was a professional it in your blood.”
“A'ole pilikia Kagami.” Arwen then worked on pronouncing it slowly. “That means Your welcome in Hawaiian. Let's go and work on getting that bag of yours. While we walk I can show you around. No, we should not have astronomy tonight. I can show you to the tower if like to just go look through.”

"My haha, mother, wasn't married to my father. She was disowned for that. Just me and her, against the world," Kagami smiled brightly, fondly recalling her mother. "She had cancer and lost her life to it. I had no one else to go to but my father, here in America."
Her heart ached, but she was determined not to show it. That was easier done when she kept her explanation short. Kagami would do her grieving in private. "I guess it is in my blood. Mahoutokoro trains hard, too. We are ichiban - number one, the best," she said, her smile faltering at an internal reminder that she was not part of 'we' anymore. "They are number one. I am at Ilvermorny, so it is not 'we'."
Rubbing her upper arms, as if trying to pre-warm them for the cold outside, and nodded. "Hai. That means 'yes'. Let's go. I think I would like to see the tower tonight."
She started walking for the exit with Arwen, headed for the Pukwudgie gardens for her satchel before classes.

Arwen moved to work on heading to the garden so that Kagami can get her bag. “I can tell you that Ilvermorny, we might not be the best. If you give us a chance though could become the family you need.”
She just wanted to reach out and hug the girl tight letting her know will it be okay. “Your mother still here for you. She is in your Puʻuwai(1).” Arwen reached to touch the girl in the heart. “My mom left me when I was 4.”
“Your father is trying to do what best for you. It might not seem like it at the moment since uprooted you.” Arwen went to open the door so they could enter. “If there was a way I sure he would have tried to keep you in your other school. We will grab some blankets and moved up to the tower. It is a different type of magical to be up there looking at the stars. It one of my favorite places here. Reminds me of being back home outside laying in the backyard at night.”

Kagami merely nodded in response to the suggestion that Ilvermorny would be like family. Only time would tell. She wasn't the sort to let resentment and anger and hurt fester, so she was sure everything would be a-okay after her period of grieving. Everyone she'd met at this school seemed nice enough, too. When Arwen reached over and touched her chest, she didn't bat an eye. "Hai. In my heart. Always," she agreed, looking sidelong at her housemate. "I am sorry for your loss."
Maybe she would believe what Arwen said about her father if he didn't always put himself and his career first. "I absolutely believe he would have had me stay in Japan if he had a choice," she said softly. Hurrying into the common room and up to the dorm to grab her things then back out again, Kagami considered how fortunate it may be to have a friend that knows what it's like to lose someone. She slung her satchel over her shoulder and let Arwen lead the way to their first class.
"Here on this mountain the tower has a good, clear view of the sky and stars, I bet," Kagami commented, looking up at the early morning sky before entering the school once more. "That must be nice, laying in your backyard at night."
Kagami hadn't had a back yard or a front yard at her apartment home with her mother. Her father's house, on the other hand, had a backyard big enough for a quidditch pitch, and that's exactly what he'd set up there. She wondered if he'd let her lay out on the pitch and watch the stars like Arwen did at her home.

Arwen nods listening to Kagami talking about what she was saying to her about family and lost. “Yes she will always be in our hearts. Mother’s are the ones that show us who we are.” Arwen really was not sure what to say because of the fact that her mother died when she was little. “I am sorry that you have a father like that. I never know what to do with that. Mine makes sure that can have anything ever wanted. He even got me a manager that takes care of my surfing when home.”
Arwen moved to work on getting her own bag and leading the way towards their first class. She could not understand why a father would do that to their own child. “Hey this is probably not right time to ask, ” She then sighed tighten her hand on book bag. “If you have no plans? Would you like to come spend Christmas with me in Hawaii.”
“Well not really sure how well the stars look on a mountain.” She looked up toward where the tower would be. “I look out through the tower so not the best view at time. Nothing beats putting your feet in the sand and looking out at a clear sky of stars.”

"Maybe we will bond, now that I am here and will see him more," Kagami shrugged apathetically. They could always bond over quidditch. "Your father sounds nice. You're a surfer? Cool."
Kagami was a little shocked that Arwen would invite her, an almost complete stranger, to visit over Christmas break. "You would want me to? I might be a thief. Or kyojin," she swirled a finger by her ear to indicate 'a crazy person'. "Maybe even hentai."
At this, she reached both hands forward and squeezed imaginary breasts like a 'pervert' and laughed. She was none of those things, so hopefully Arwen would see that she was only kidding. It was just odd to her that someone would invite someone they hardly knew to stay at their home. However, now that she knew Arwen was okay with her speaking in japanese, she felt more comfortable doing as she did, inserting a word here and there. Curiously, it felt natural and unnatural at the same time.
"Ah," was all she said about seeing the stars. Maybe she didn't realize the school was on top of a mountain. Depending on how the students were transported there, perhaps it wasn't obvious to them. It was hard to tell while you were atop the mountain, with all the super tall evergreen trees and the rather flat land.

“Maybe you will bond with him. I believe that if you spend more time together then for sure will work on bonding.” Awren really felt sorry for the girl that did not have a family to bond with. “My father is nice and always there for me. When home if have a nightmare I can go to him. Yes, I am a surfer when not at school. Maybe if things keep up will become one even when finished.”
Arwen did not see anything wrong with inviting Kagami over if they were going to be roommates. She giggled as moved backward when Kagami moved to reach to imaginary breasts. She really thought that it was funny to be around here. “It is okay I mean we have our own lōlō(1). Plus If you were into hentai might not want to work on telling people that. Plus the truth thing we are all little confused.” She blushed and still giggled at the fact that her roommate was so funny.
“We live on a mauna(2). It one of those things if go outside all you see is trees so the stars are hard to see because not clear. The astronomy tower lets you see the stars clear with no trees or distractions.” Arwen knew that they could work on seeing the stars in the sky. They just would not be as bright and heavenly. This place also did cold and Arwen did not like the cold. “How about we hurry and get back inside where not so cold.
Lōlō = CRAZY
Mauna = mountain
