Arwen smiled walking out into the crisp evening air. She knew could get in some quick flying before whichever house as the arena showed up for their private practices. It would not do any good to be with one the other students and they claim that was trying to cheat. Did they all not know by now that she really could care less about the game. Her idea of fun was racing or where go one on one with someone, not group sports. In group sports, you were only as good as your worse player. That being said you could be the best player in the world and still lose if not have a good team to back you up.
“Okay, you can do this. It just like you are back home and in the water. Get on the broom hold on tight and become one with it.” Arwen talks to herself in the right mindset to work on flying correctly. She missed being out on her surfboard when at school. The witch set her box down and opened it up. Her broom was pulled out where she then set taking care of it. “hana ikaika(1) then paani hope(2).” Awren had one of the faster brooms out there but knew it was not just the broom that would win it. “Let's get you taken care of now. Maintenance it important.”
(1)hana ikaika = work hard
(2)paani hope = play later

Enzo was never able to practice alone, now that quodpot practices and scrimmages were in full swing, with the first real games starting soon. Walking up to the pitch with his broom in hand, he realized he wouldn't be able to practice in peace this time, either. "Great," he grimaced and rolled his eyes. Well, at least it was a racer and not a quodpot player. He bitterly recalled his brief one-on-one with Abel Meridian. What an asshole.
The girl, Arwen if he wasn't mistaken, was doing a bit of broom maintenance. Perhaps she had just finished practice. Still, he had better at least make sure she wasn't going to throw a fit if he practiced his maneuvers. "Will it bother you if I practice?" he asked once he was just a couple yards away from her.

Arwen looked towards Enzo when he walked into the room. She worked on bitting her lips to not say anything when see him roll his eyes. “No, you are not going to bother me.” The broom was finished with the maintenance before standing up. “Just don’t think about throwing a quod at me. I will not bother catching it. There is a reason that I am a racer and not a player.”
Arwen did not mean to seem as if mean but wanted him to know. He was on the team for more than one year right. If so and he actually thought about it. It would easy to see that was the girl was never at the games. Awren was always spending that time to work on studying. Her grades would show it though. “We can pretend that both of us are here on own.”

"I'm only practicing maneuvers today, anyway," Enzo said, propping his broom across the back of his shoulders and dangling his wrists over them. It gave a bit of a 'locked in the stocks' impression. That was a really nice broom she had. Fast, too. He wondered if she could even handle it. Guess he was about to find out.
He didn't know or care if she was usually at the games or not. It barely mattered to him if his friends or housemates showed up, let alone this girl. "Perfect. Can do," Enzo agreed with a big, fake, dimpled smile then turned on his heel. He headed out onto the pitch, whistling to himself. Rather than wear his nice, new uniform, he wore an old quodpot outfit to practice in. He'd had to magic it into a larger size because of the growth spurt he'd gone through over the summer break.

Arwen smiled to her and nods as worked on getting on the broom. “That fine I do not mind if you practice maneuvers or whichever. Just not the best at catching different things.” She watched the way he was holding his broom and shakes head little. How could someone treat their broom with no respect at all? The broom is like a person wand with care it will do wonders.”
She went to kick off the ground before working on floating for a moment. Air is just like the water, you needed to work on getting used to the feeling before doing too much. The pressure is different along with the feeling. Arwen once set for a moment started to move forward slowly. She was working on getting even faster over time. This was a practice so no reason to tire herself out first.

Enzo didn't see anything wrong with the way he was holding his broom. It was just a more comfortable way to carry it, for him. Better than using it like a walking stick or dragging it along the ground as some people did. Out on the pitch, he carefully laid his broom down then commanded it to rise. He mounted his trusty steed and took off at an easy pace, doing a few movement tests to make sure it hadn't been tampered with. After Gideon Smith's accident, it had become a habit to test everything before every ride. It was a shame that his housemate had been hurt, and he was glad he was back at school. It sucked that he had to quit racing, especially considering that such accidents are quite rare in racing, but at least he hadn't been on the quodpot team. They couldn't afford to lose any players with actual matches just around the corner.
After deciding his broom was in tip top shape, he took a few laps around the outer edge, taking it slow at first then building up speed. Occasionally, he'd check for Arwen's position outside of the pitch along the track. Enzo wondered if he could catch up to her from where he was, then pass her. Well, he had little else to do, so he started toward her, following the inside of the fence that divided the track from the field.

Arwen was not really going at top speed since did not see the point since one the weather was cold. She did not like wearing heavy clothes when on the broom because of the fact that it would only work on slowing her down. She could have worn clothes like Enzo but that did not make any sense. She had enjoyed her light sweater and pants.
“Really if you want to race then bring it on.” Arwen turned to work on laying closer to the broom. This would give her less room for the air to catch up and slow her down. “Just know that when you lose do not need to go around moping. People would not like this at all.” She made sure that stayed close enough to him that thought had a chance.

"It's no big deal. This isn't exactly the best racing broom, I don't expect it to keep up," Enzo hollered across the fence. He wasn't really trying to race, just test the abilities of his broom. That didn't stop him, though. He, too, leaned forward on his broom until he was practically laying on his stomach. "C'mon, Ratroomsup. You can do it," he whispered affectionately to his old broom.
Enzo managed to keep on her tail for a while, better than he expected of his 2005 model. While it might not have had the speed, it had precision. It took turns like nobody's business. That was one reason the used broom dealer suggested it for quodpot. Slow or wide turns meant wasting seconds you couldn't spare with a quod that might explode before reaching the goal. He didn't know she wasn't pushing her broom to the limits.

Arwen watched how he was actually doing a decent keeping up with her on an older broom. She had to give him credit where it was due. “Not too bad at all. You're doing really well for a quodpot player. If had a better broom could easily have kept up for sure.” She slowed down to where she was hovering. “Do not think to try to bring the sport down. Sure you are good at what you do just think that it a pointless sport. Why do people actually want to get things thrown at them and taking the chance that it will explode on you.”
She worked on leaning down against the broom. Awren loved the feeling of going fast with the wind in her hair. After about a count of five, she actually took off at full speed knowing that making turns a hair slower and tighter could be the things that caused her to lose that little bit of speed that could win it all.

When she slowed, he caught up, easing along beside her. Arwen was a cute girl, but she seemed kind of snotty to him. That lessened her appeal for him. "I guess it's just an adrenaline rush," he said, shrugging. Enzo couldn't really explain the appeal of quodpot, and he could certainly understand why people thought it was pointless. When Arwen took off at full speed, he knew he couldn't catch her, so he didn't bother trying. He just watched her go, rolling his eyes. Why were girls such show offs? His sister was the worst of all. Alicia and Arwen would probably be the best of friends if they were closer in age.

Arwen once made the lap at full speed. She worked on slowing down to look at Enzo once stopped. “I understand the adrenaline rush. I get that ever time goes out on a surf board in the ocean never knowing what the waves going to do. The main problem, I think have with quodpot is the team work. It one of those that you are only as good as your weakest link. If that one bad then how are you suppose to win.” She smiled lightly as looked over his broom. “You did well for staying caught up with me when tired.”

He watched her zoom around the track, impressed but a bit envious. When she made it back around, he tried not to show his envy or his awe. "I totally agree with that. I feel like, sometimes, we just let people on to the team out of pity. Or maybe because no one else tried out," he sighed. "What I do is try not to let the weakest link get the quod, if I have the choice between tossing to them or to a better player. I know, not very sportsmanlike of me. But what can I say? I hate losing, and giving the quod to them is a guaranteed loss."
Enzo smirked a bit, floating along at a leisurely pace on his side of the fence. "Like racing you. I know I can't win on this broom, so I don't even bother trying," he said, shrugging a shoulder.

Arwen laughed when actually had someone that understood why she could not get the game. “Well, that is great that someone understands what mean. When racing you are the only one that matters. You are the weak link if work on losing because not fast enough.” She kept moving slowly forward not wanting to actually stay still for long. “It is okay really that your not. You are out to win. The smart and logical choice would be to pass it to the better player.”
She almost giggled thinking about how he knew that he would not win against her. “If you want to work on trying one day just let me know. Plus if ever want to try my broom as long as we take care of it first if want to borrow the broom you can.”

This girl was awfully trusting, offering to let him borrow her broom. He would never borrow it, but didn't outright refuse the offer. "Maybe. Sometime," Enzo shrugged his shoulders. Maybe he'd get a better broom for Christmas, if that's all he asked for. That was the best he could hope for until he could get a job and earn money for himself.
"I see what you mean about racing. You are the only one you have to depend on, except in things like relay races. I feel like it would be boring, going around and around in circles, but that's just me," Enzo said, squinting and putting his right hand over his eyes while keeping himself steady on the broom with his left. They had come to the point where they were facing the sun, sinking slowly on its journey toward the horizon.

Arwen listens to everything that Enzo was saying understanding about everything that he saying. She could tell that he was not going to actually use it. “Sometimes later then that is fine. Just let me know when you want that.”
Arwen went to work on trying to move forwards some since would be easier for him because of the sun. It was only a few feet but that all he needed. “Well, I do not enter into the relay ones. There are plenty of other students that I sure would be more than willing to work on doing that. My job is to worry about speed.” Awren rubbed her arms little thinking on it all. “Some people do not like going in circles there are others that is what love to do. Going in circles is not the only thing you're doing you need to take into account the spend of wind, weather, and humidity and things.
