He walked quietly, crunching the occasional leaf beneath his shoe as he stepped in time with her. He hoped the blanket he had tucked into the front of his hoodie would be enough to keep them warm in this chilling breeze. He hadn't come completely unprepared, he just hoped it was enough is all.
He passed the alcove where they had shared many a kiss and continued down the grassy hill, looking up, trying to figure out where would be the perfect spot to see the stars, away from the lights of the castle and the tops of trees. When he finally found it, he squeezed her hand gently and said simply, "Here."
He dropped down to his ass on the ground, patting the area next to him as he pulled the flannel blanket out of his pouch. He tossed it out, covering up their legs at first before he put his hood up as his ears were getting cold. He leaned back on his elbows and eased himself down until he was laying there next to her. This wasn't about sex, this was about cuddling and romance, and things they had skipped over when they first started dating. He shifted his arm until it was under her neck and around to gently touch the top of her arm.

Jaina nodded when he said 'here', grabbing the insulated blanket she had kept folded up in her pocket. A quick wave of her wand returned it to usual size, spreading it across the ground. It was nice and fluffy so they wouldn't have to worry about the uneven ground beneath them. She had brought two, just in case but fortunately, Gideon had brought one of his own. That was something, at least. When he dropped down on it, she took a quick moment to stare at him, cast in the very dim starlight from above yet still enough for her to see him.
How the hell she had ended up so lucky...definitely something she would be thanking God for every day.
The moment passed and she dropped down next to him, curling into his side as he offered his arm to serve as a bit of a pillow. "That's what I forgot," Jaina sighed. "A pillow for you." She shifted, turning into him naturally so that she could easily look up or at his face, depending on her mood. "I have another blanket if you want to fold it up for that," she offered softly, liking the peace and quiet of this small space that suddenly seemed to exist just for the two of them.

"Hmm? Nah, I'm fine," he said as he tucked his other arm behind his head, solving that problem. He looked at her for a moment and smiled before turning to look at the stars above them. "Are you warm enough?" he asked without looking at her. The blanket that was draped over them smelled like him, as it was his camping blanket. He always took it with his family when they went camping and it was cold out.

"I'm fine," Jaina reassured him, smiling as she smelled the blanket and finding it smelled all Gideony. Silly thought but she found it comforting, in the way he usually did for her. "I was more worried about you being out here...all this cold. I wasn't sure if you could do it," she chuckled, her arm wrapping around his chest.
"Just as long as it doesn't snow, right?" She teased.

"Yeah, I'm not prepared for the snow yet," he said with a chuckle. His eyes were looking at the millions upon millions of stars above them. "I don't stop to do this often enough," he said quietly. "Everyone is always in a hurry and they forget to stop and take a look around them," he said. "This is nice," he said, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

"Well hun, I would get ready for it...soon," she said casually, no heat in her voice. Just a word that no longer meant what it had a few days ago. A smile he likely couldn't see crossed her face, the kiss so sweet and simple. Definitely something they had never done before, to her memory. Or maybe there had been some but had been lost in the more passionate moments. Now that they weren't rushing off, nothing but a good amount of time ahead of them, it was amazing.
Cuddling was something she hadn't figured they would be able to do until after her detentions were over. Last night had been close but they had still been in public. There was no way they could curl up like this in the quad without catching a lot of hell and probably a fair share of trouble.
"It's a fantastic setting, really. And if you are outside around midnight or just before dawn, you can watch them fall," she said, truly sounding enchanted.

As Gideon looked up at the sky he noticed something gathering along the fringes of the castle. Rainclouds were beginning to appear. "Dammit, it would figure," he said in an exasperated voice. "We're about to be rained out," he said, carefully sitting up and then getting to his feet so he could help her up. There wasn't really anywhere they could go and cuddle up like that. The closest place was the quad and there was always a chance of a teacher or prefect taking exception to PDA.
"Quick, grab your blanket," he said, his Bostonian accent coming out slightly as he headed for the treeline, wrapping his blanket around himself. The clouds were gathering fast and Gideon sighed. "We'll have to make a run for the castle unless you wanna stay out here and get soaked?" he asked. "We can maybe go to the quad, even though it's probably packed by now." Poor Gideon didn't know what to do. His perfect date was about to be ruined, and this time because of the weather.

Oh, that was not going to work. They had a night together and she was not spending it with him sitting in the Quad where they couldn't touch. "Magic, hun," Jaina reminded him, using her wand to make an umbrella to cover her. It wouldn't last but it could get them somewhere private at least. Sighing, she had been hoping not to resort to this but desperate times.
"Come on, maybe it won't last long," she proposed, grabbing his hand and pulling him further into the trees. "Trust me. And maybe close your eyes," Jaina mused, remembering their conversation at dinner.

He took her hand and followed her deeper into the trees, though he didn't close his eyes. He was busy looking down to make sure he didn't trip over anything in the soft ground. A tree root here and rock there. He looked up, trying to tell where the hell they were going but he had no clue, though he did make an umbrella with his wand as well, just for double coverage.

It wasn't far to go. A hundred feet, give or take. The trees thickened around them until they suddenly parted, revealing a small patch of ground that was still partially shaded by the outstretched limbs above them. "This is where I spent my afternoon," she told him, counting the few steps forward that it was. In the daylight, someone would have seen the outline at least but here in the dark, it was well camouflaged, meaning that it would be much harder to find them.
"Should probably keep better track of time, this round," Jaina suggested and then pulled the flap aside, the dim light from the tent she had been cleaning bright enough to light his way inside where she had returned everything to normal. The romantic atmosphere from the last time was now gone, now just a regular living room back the way it usually was.
Taking a few steps, she shot flames into the fireplace to warm things up a little. The blankets would work well enough until that happened. "I know there are no stars but it's dry and private," She apologized, hoping that he had followed her inside.

He followed her inside, shaking himself before putting his wand away. "I thought you had put this away until spring?" he asked, moving over to the fireplace to warm his hands up. He wasn't going to complain for now, though she was right they would have to watch the time far more closely than they usually did. It had taken them five to ten minutes to get here from the clearing which was a good fifteen minutes away from the castle proper. He checked his watch and they had an hour, give or take.

"I had planned to," she admitted. "And then after our last stay, I knew that things needed to be cleaned up. Food, sheets washed, bathroom cleaned. Not good to leave that kind of thing to sit through the winter.
"Honestly," Jaina confessed, a little guiltily, "Back when we set our date for Whimsic Alley, I had planned on using it for other more devious reasons but things change, right? So I did the work this afternoon, lost track of time, and couldn't do more than cast a disillusionment spell on my way out. Just figured I'd come back out here tomorrow after lunch and finish up before packing it away. Though it does have some benefits, such as a shower I don't have to share with anyone else.
"It's why I had the two blankets with me." She headed over to lay the object in question over the drying rack that had been outside earlier, letting the cool air actually dry the sheets. It had made them smell so much better in the long run or at least, better than cheap fabric softener. "If you want to lay yours over here as well, I can collect it tomorrow."

He hung his blanket where she indicated and walked in until he could plop down on the couch. "I'm sorry our date night got ruined by the rain," he said. "I was hoping we could cuddle and talk because I don't want us to be just about sex," he admitted. "I want to get to know you Jaina so that we can have an actual relationship that's not just physical."
He rested his head in his hands, his elbows on his knees as he sat there and sighed in frustration. "Stupid rain."

Jaina shook her head, tossing a few logs on the fire that should last them until their time was up so that she could deal with her boyfriend. She dropped down in front of him, facing Gideon instead of the fire. "Hey, it's okay," she said reassuringly, looking up at his face. "Just because we're in here doesn't mean you're getting any. It just means we stay dry and healthy. I don't think either of us wants to get sick right now.
"There is a rug and dry blankets, even pillows so everything can go back to what we were doing earlier. Just now we have a fireplace to look at instead of stars. Not quite as magical, I grant you, but it's better than the Quad where we couldn't lay down together like we were...unless you would prefer the couch. It's a bit small but I'm sure we could make it work so we were both comfortable." She set her elbows on her knees, chin resting on her hands. There was no way she was going to touch him at this moment in concern that he would think she was being insincere about her intentions.

He looked up at her and nodded, wondering if she understood what he was talking about. He looked at the fire and then his watch, quickly setting an alarm. "Um, the floor I guess," he said, unsure of what else to do and it would be a waste of the warmth of the fireplace. He got down off the couch and stretched out on the rug, his head resting on the couch for the moment.
He would let her do the setup because he had no idea where she kept what in this massive tent. Instead, he stared into the fire, contemplating what they could talk about.
