Jaina thought about it for a moment. "I don't think there is anything we haven't covered. I'm not a big fan of wintergreen but it's not enough of an aversion that it's a deal breaker. Not that I think it's something I have to worry about but the same with tobacco products." It was highly unlikely that it was even a possibility with him but might as well bring it up now before they went any further. "I mean, I'm not going to stop kissing you but I might give you a mint first."

"Chewing tobacco is disgusting and not a habit I plan on picking up," he said, drawing his fingertips to her temples and beginning to trace small circles. "I tried smoking once, and that was horrible. I couldn't stop coughing for like three days. My mom thought I had bronchitis. So I got to stay in bed and lounge around all day until I stopped coughing. By the way," he said, " I'd appreciate it if you never tell her about that."

Jaina looked up at him in disbelief. "Seriously?" She couldn't help but laugh, the little cringe of guilt and the hope she would keep her mouth shut. So subtle on his face. Adorable really and something new she'd never witnessed there. Even better, something to focus on that wasn't about her because she had not been so fortunate when she had tried it.
"I suppose I could be convinced," she finally agreed playfully, her eyes sparkling. "It could be very costly for you though."

"Seriously," he said. "There are very few things I have kept from my Mom, and that's one of them." Gideon, though he had a strong bond with his father, was a Momma's boy at heart.
"How costly are we talking about?" he asked, moving his fingertips in firmer circles against her temples as he looked down at her. "What would it take to convince you to not turn me in?"

Her smile didn't dim as she looked up at him, loving the feeling of what his hands were doing to her temple. Normally she didn't do massages or stuff like that. Just couldn't stand the feeling of someone else putting pressure on her skin like that. But Gideon, on the other hand, seemed to always be the exception to the rule. Amazing man that he was.
"You will grant me one favor, to be collected at a later time and date of my choosing," Jaina finally said. "Under the condition that it is after we get past this little period of time. And I will agree that it will not be anything that will jeopardize your prefect badge nor ruin your good boy image here at school. Deal?" There was a long list of things she had in mind but one in particular that had been coming on stronger as the days had brought it ever closer.

"That sounds...reasonable," he said continuing to rub her temples, his thumbs now grazing the apples of her cheeks. As long as it didn't interfere with his prefect's badge and it happened after Halloween, he should be golden. Besides, he wasn't aware that she had a list of things in her mind that she wanted to do with or to him.
"Deal," he said as he began gently massaging her face. "Does it bother you that I'm close to my Mother?" he asked, a couple of girlfriends back hadn't liked that he was such a Momma's boy.

Her smile faded, the question not sitting right with her. What was wrong with him being close to his mother? Why would he think that would bother her? Strange that he spoke more of his father and then asked this but then, if Gideon had been her only child - the one she had fought to have, it would make sense that she would be so protective of him.
Jaina was going to have to be on her very best behavior when she went home with him at Thanksgiving. As close as he seemed to be with his parents, it wouldn't look good if she gave them a bad impression of her. Definitely a good thing she had asked Pops to send her clothing allowance so that she could hopefully find something that didn't make her look like she was some yokel from hicktown.
No course but forward. "Why would that bother me?" Oedipus complex aside (and he definitely didn't seem the type for that), what had him so worried?

"Past girlfriends had issues with me being a Momma's boy," he explained before the alarm on his watch began to go off. "Damn. Time to get back to the castle." He'd miss this tent when it was gone, he had to admit. He had learned a lot tonight though which was good. And they hadn't resorted to sex, hadn't even taken any clothes off. Progress!
He waited until she got off his lap before he got up and grabbed his blanket from the drying rack. It was still damp but he could quickly dry it later. He tucked it into the pouch of his hoodie, putting his hood up before withdrawing his wand to make an umbrella as it was still pouring outside. "We better hurry, it looks like it's getting worse."

Jaina bit back the curse on her lips as the alarm went off. But with no protest, she sat up and climbed to her feet, using her wand to put out the fire. When she had completely soaked the hearth, Jaina put up the fire screen. If she hadn't smoored it completely, this way it would burn itself out without taking the tent with it.
With the rain outside, however, it wouldn't likely burn for long. With a flick, the lights dimmed back to their usual setting and then she headed out, leaving her blanket behind. Umbrella now above her, Jaina waited until he was out to close and lock the flap in place. Once they took a few steps away from it, the little safe-haven was once more nearly invisible. It would hold until tomorrow afternoon...maybe evening - after she ran and wanted to shower in privacy. One last time - was that too much to ask?
He was right, the rain had gotten heavier while they had been tucked away. It made the ground a little more slippery - especially with the roots and rocks they had to avoid. After she nearly tripped in the dark for the third time, Jaina shook her head. "No point staying dry if one of us breaks their neck," she yelled above the rain, dropping her umbrella so that she could use her wand to light their path through. While he would probably say that the guy was supposed to be the one getting wet, he was the one with the heavy responsibility - the one who couldn't afford to take a few hours off to deal with the flu or a cold. Jaina's time wasn't quite so restricted yet, in spite of her detentions.
Finally, they got through the trees. Once they neared the break, the path was smoother so she cut the light. By this point, however, she was soaked. An umbrella, when she was already a sopping rat, was going to make her feel very stupid. Sighing, without thinking about it, Jaina stepped out into the full downpour, gritting her teeth and already knowing that when she got back in the castle, the first thing she was going to do was strip and the second was climb into a very nice, hot bath. When they finally reached the castle proper, she smiled, heading through the entry hall, using her wand to clean up the puddles she was leaving in her wake.
"It was a really nice night," Jaina said with a weak smile.

"Yeah it was," he said genuinely. "Once this is all over, we'll have to do it again." He approached her, reaching up to cup her jaw gently and leaned in. He kissed her gently, letting it linger for a moment before he backed away. It would have to hold them over until his duties were done.
"See you at breakfast?" he asked as he walked her toward Thunderbird tower. He was still hopeful for mealtimes.

It took her a moment to get over the kiss. That little touch - what an amazing effect it had on the cold she had been feeling moments earlier. "Lunch," she corrected. "Sorry, Sunday mornings I spend practicing in the music room." When they reached the tower, Jaina was tempted to coax one last kiss from him but they were likely already pushing into his prefect patrol time.

"Lunch then," he stood there for a moment, looking at her as if he was drinking her in like a thirsty sailor. He was going to need this evening to think about while he toiled away at Harmonia's demands of his time.
Not wanting to get himself stuck to her side, unable to let go, he took a deep breath and whispered, "Goodnight, Jaina." And with that he backed away from her, smiling for the longest time until he turned on his heel. Once she couldn't see his face, a scowl replaced his smile. He had to deal with Eris or one of her lists tomorrow and it was already going to be a long night with his patrolling.
